Food Stop #1 - The ToP Table @ Temasek Polytechnic

Canteens are a norm in all schools. Here in Temasek polytechnic(TP), you actually get to find a fine-dining restaurant, named the " The ToP Table " . Wondered why the "ToP" is designed this way? It actually represents TP.

This full-service restaurant is run by students from the hospitality courses( Hospitality and Tourism Management- HTM , Leisure and Resort Management - LRM & Culinary and Catering Management - CCM) and monitor by two professional instructors during the operation.

The foods are reasonably priced and you will surely get a decent meal out from this restaurant! Don't form the perception that " How good can school food get ?? Aiya, all trainee chefs..." Well, I should let the photos talk to you guys!

As my friends and I visited the restaurant today and it happens to be their project execution week, we had a four-courses meal consisting of an appetizer, a bowl of soup, main course and not forgetting the last piece of food that completes the meal, the dessert and a cup of coffee/tea.

Under the "normal" menu, they will have two choices of starter, either the appetizer or the soup. Two main course to choose from ( just that my friends and I happened to choose the same main course today) and it comes along with dessert and a cup of coffee/tea.

First course - Appetizer
Carpaccio of Cured Salmon with Cream Cheese, topped with Pistachio Crust Cranberry Jelly & Marinated Pear
Rating : 3.5/5

Second course - The Soup

Manhattan-style Clam Chowder with Garlic Crouton
Rating: 4/5

When you see the word " chowder ", I believe the first thing that comes to your mind is " Oh, creamy base?" . But for this soup, it was a clear-base and it is definitely much healthier ! The clams are really fresh and along with the tomato-based clear soup, it does help to stimulate the appetite!

Third course - Main Course

Pan - Seared Fillet of Snapper Topped with Sun-dried Tomatoes Crumbs, served with Angel Hair Pasta, Cherry Tomatoes & Sauteed Haricot Verts
Rating : 4.5/5

Fourth course - Dessert

Nougatine Parfait with Macerated Mixed Berries
Rating : 3/5

I understand that dessert is meant to be sweet, but this is a little too sweet to my liking.
However, if you loves berries, you can surely go ahead to scoop a little of the nougatine parfait along with some berries and that would help to neutralize the sweetness of the dessert.

Sides: Mocktail of the day
Temasek Passion

Having good food alone does not helps to sum up the overall dining experience. The next factor that plays a part in determining the overall dining experience is the service. Like I mentioned earlier, this restaurant is run by students, but it doesn't means that they don't provide good services. The students are very attentive and friendly and are equally good to those seasoned waiter/waitress you find out there!

Ohhhh yaaa, I have yet to mention about price. $.$
The set meal today costed more than the usual days because they have added in one more course.
Today's meal costed $18/per person. Other normal day, it would only cost $13.80(GST inclusive) Tell me where other place can you find such a good price for a four-course meal? Mark this place down and be sure to visit this restaurant if you have the time.
